Top-Tested School Districts in the Charlotte, NC Region

When purchasing a home, one of the important factors that many individuals and families take into consideration is the school district. Gathering all this information can be overwhelming, especially when you are already making such a big decision in purchasing a home. To help make the process a little easier, we have put together a list of some of the highest-scoring school districts in the Greater Charlotte, NC region.

Fort Mill School District
The Fort Mill School District (FMSD) in South Carolina is located just across the state line, making it a short drive away from the heart of Charlotte. There are 15 schools within the FMSD – nine elementary schools, five middle schools, and two high schools. Additionally, there is a third high school scheduled to open in August 2019.

Students within the FMSD have demonstrated high test scores. The SC READY assessment is given to students in grades 3-8. The Spring 2016 test results demonstrated that 70.5% of students exceeded and/or met expectations in English, compared to 43% of students statewide. Additionally, 71.1% of students exceeded and/or met expectations in mathematics, compared to 42.6% of students statewide.

The SCPASS tests students in grades 4-8. The Spring 2016 test results demonstrated that 49.3% of students demonstrated exemplary performance in science, compared to 25.7% of students statewide. Additionally, 63.4% of students demonstrated exemplary performance in social studies, compared to 34.8% of students statewide.

Union County Public Schools
Students living in the Monroe, NC area will attend the Union County Public Schools, which are about an hour outside of Uptown Charlotte. This school district is comprised of 55 different schools – 30 elementary schools, 10 middle schools, 12 high schools, and three special purpose schools.

As one of the largest and safest school districts in the state of North Carolina, Union County Public Schools have a lot of positive attributes. The data from test results demonstrated that 61% of students are proficient in reading and 62% proficient in math. Additionally, this school district has a 93% graduation rate.

Clover School District
Also referred to as York #2, Clover School District has been ranked as one of the top school districts with the most effective teachers in South Carolina, with an average student-teacher ratio of 14:1. There iare 11 schools within the Clover School District – seven elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school, and one alternative school.

Students within the Clover School District consistently demonstrate higher test scores than the state averages. In the state of South Carolina, students in grades 3-8 take the SC READY assessment. The results from the Spring 2016 tests revealed that 60.4% of students in the Clover School District exceeded and/or met expectations in English, compared to 43% of students statewide. Additionally, 64.7% exceeded and/or met expectations in mathematics, compared to 42.6% statewide.

The SCPASS is administered to South Carolina students in grades 4-8. In the Clover School District, 43.8% of students exhibited exemplary performance in science, compared to 25.7% of students statewide. In social studies, 53.4% of students exhibited exemplary performance, compared to 34.8% of students statewide.

Mooresville Graded School District
Located in Iredell County, the Mooresville Graded School district is roughly 30 minutes from the Uptown Charlotte area. This notable school district has become known for its quality teachers and athletics. Additionally, the Mooresville Graded School District has made great efforts to successfully integrate digital resources into the teaching and learning methods for each student. In fact, in 2013, former President Barack Obama visited Mooresville Middle School to unveil the ConnectED plan.

There are seven schools in the Mooresville Graded School District – three elementary schools, two intermediate schools, one middle school, and one high school. In terms of academic testing, 58% of students tested proficient in reading, and 59% tested proficient in math.
