Should I Live in a Condo?

At Henderson Properties, we cater to buyers of all types. Many of our buyers find the condo lifestyle ideal for them, with the low-maintenance and professional community that comes with it. If you are considering the condo lifestyle, here are some pros and cons to consider.

Benefits of the Condominium Life
When you own a condominium, you own the property, just like when you own a home. You have the equity that a homeowner enjoys. Yet, you don’t have to perform the maintenance as you would with a single-family home. You will pay a homeowner’s association to handle tasks like landscaping, exterior repairs and lawn mowing. This gives you more time to enjoy the benefits of the community.

Condos often offer many community amenities. A pool, fitness center, sports courts and pet park may all be included as part of life in the community. As you spend time using these amenities, you will enjoy becoming part of the community. Neighbors are often more closely-knit in a condominium tower or community than in a traditional neighborhood. If you are looking for a home that gives you automatic entrance into a community, then condo living might be right for you.

Condos can be located just about anywhere, but often in Charlotte they are located near the main business areas of the community and near public transportation options. For busy professionals, this convenience is a tremendous benefit.

The close-knit nature of a condo community can be a benefit, but it can also be a drawback. You may share walls, parking and common areas with your neighbors, which can limit your privacy.

The condominium association that handles your maintenance can also be a drawback. Most associations have rules about how you can behave, decorate and live in your condo. You also may not have any say in how the exterior of your home looks. If the association chooses an odd paint color or a plant you hate, you are stuck with it. This lack of control bothers some buyers immensely.

Condominium living can be quite freeing, but it’s not right for everyone. If you are curious about the condos available in Charlotte, talk to the Henderson Properties team. We can help you determine whether or not one of our condo communities is right for you.
