New EthoSphere proposed for Lake Norman

Lake Norman, a popular spot along Interstate 77 in North Carolina, is about to look a whole lot different. A new 14-story building, named the EthoSphere, is proposed to be built along the lake front.

The EthoSphere will contain 350,000 square feet of space inside the structure. The proposed design will include residential, retail, and commercial space, in addition to a 150-to-170 room full service hotel.Lake Norman EthoSphere

In addition to the main structure, a 12,000 square feet conference center and meeting space will be located adjacent. The proposed meeting space would hold 1,000 people.

A stumbling block towards the proposed EthoSphere is zoning laws in place within Mooresville limiting buildings to 10-stories. Applying for and receiving a waiver and permit to exceed the limitation could take years for approval.

The EthoSphere is also looking at certification and funding under green construction and energy programs. The building is intended to take advantage of renewable energy sources and technology to reduce greenhouse emissions and energy consumption.

Mooresville is already experiencing a construction boom. Nearly 300 acres are under development as a residential community. There are new business parks and corporate buildings popping up along I-77. The EthoSphere is expected to help pull more jobs and residents into the Mooresville area.

The EthoSphere is already looking to become home to many upscale restaurants and retailers moving into the Lake Norman area. The additional space could help the community add jobs and expand communities. It could help boost tourism dollars spent at Lake Norman.
